How Water Ionization Works
Water ionization is the process of separating water (H₂O) into its acidic and alkaline components using electrolysis. When water passes through the ionization chamber of a UNIQ H₂O device, it flows over a series of electrically charged platinum-coated titanium plates. The electric current causes the water molecules to separate: the alkaline minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium) migrate to the negative electrode, producing hydroxide-rich, negatively charged alkaline water — while the positive electrode produces acidic water.
The Four Pillars of Ionized Water
Alkaline Water
Our ionizers produce alkaline water with a pH range of 7.5 to 11.5, helping neutralize excess acid in the body and support a healthy internal balance. Drinking alkaline water is associated with improved hydration and overall wellness.
ORP — Oxidation Reduction Potential
ORP measures the ability of water to act as an antioxidant. UNIQ H₂O ionizers can achieve a negative ORP as low as -800 mV, meaning the water actively neutralizes harmful free radicals in the body — just like vitamins C and E.
Micro-Clustering
Through electrolysis, regular water clusters (typically 12–16 molecules) are broken down into smaller micro-clusters of 5–6 molecules. This allows water to penetrate cells more easily, resulting in superior hydration at the cellular level.
Hydrogen-Rich Water
Ionization infuses water with molecular hydrogen (H₂), the smallest and most bioavailable antioxidant known. Hydrogen molecules can cross the blood-brain barrier and reach every cell, providing deep antioxidant protection.
Understanding the pH Scale
pH stands for "potential of Hydrogen" and is measured on a scale from 0 to 14. A pH of 7 is neutral, below 7 is acidic, and above 7 is alkaline. UNIQ H₂O ionizers give you full control across the entire useful range.
Acidic (pH 0–6)
Below pH 7. Includes lemon juice (~2), coffee (~5), and untreated rain water (~5.6). Excess acidity in the body is linked to fatigue and chronic disease.
Neutral (pH 7)
Pure water sits at exactly pH 7. Ideal for preparing baby formula and taking medications, as it will not interfere with any chemical process.
Alkaline (pH 8–14)
Above pH 7. UNIQ H₂O produces water from pH 8 to 11.5 for drinking, cooking, and cleaning. The optimal drinking range for daily health is pH 8.5–9.5.
Why the Number of Plates Matters
More ionization plates mean greater surface area for electrolysis, resulting in stronger ORP values, wider pH range, and more consistent water quality — especially at higher flow rates.
